01 / A closer look
The face of Gem Pack Vol.5
The Simplified Chinese Gem Pack Vol.5 includes several Captain Pikachu prints. This edition is 01 07/07, the three-star art card credited to Keita Hagiwara, with Captain Pikachu and Friede together in the image. It should be distinguished from the other finishes numbered 01 01/07 through 01 06/07.
[3, 4]Smallest share of the print run
The set's official rarity table puts the three-star Pokémon art illustration holo at 1.81% of the print run, the smallest share of any print type.
[3]Four Chinese-only art cards
Captain Pikachu with Friede, Floragato with Liko, Crocalor with Roy and Quaxwell with Dot are the four three-star art cards that exist only in this set.
[3]02 / Behind the artwork
Keita Hagiwara
Keita Hagiwara works across Pokémon illustration, animation and film direction.
Keita Hagiwara wrote and directed the 2019 animated short Hiroko’s Garden, also contributing background art and key animation. He later contributed second key animation to the 2023 OLM TEAM KATO film Musuko ni wa Kanawanai.
His Captain Pikachu card sits alongside three companion cards by other illustrators: Floragato with Liko by Lyu YiFei, Crocalor with Roy by Kouki Yanagihara, and Quaxwell with Dot by Rei Yamazaki.
[5, 6, 7, 8]More cards. More to explore.
Lyu YiFei places Floragato close to the viewer while Liko turns away beside a picnic basket, creating two different viewing directions. Hagiwara’s Captain Pikachu and Friede face outward together; this companion card gives the partnership a more informal, off-centre arrangement.
Kouki Yanagihara brings Crocalor’s open mouth close to the foreground, with Roy and a meal behind it in warm indoor light. Captain Pikachu’s raised hand and Friede’s matching gesture make a composed pair; here, unequal scale and animated expressions make the scene busier.
Rei Yamazaki uses Quaxwell’s large blue head to dominate the foreground, while Dot and a bowl of food occupy the smaller space behind. The steep overlap contrasts with Captain Pikachu’s more evenly balanced pairing, turning a shared meal into a close, compressed scene.
Beyond the cards
An aspiring manga creator enters a city overtaken by greenery. Hagiwara wrote and directed the short, with additional credits in background art and key animation.
Musuko ni wa Kanawanai follows an exhausted father and his young son. Hagiwara contributed second key animation to the OLM TEAM KATO production.
03 / The collector
Busy card, thin ACE market
PriceCharting lists about two PSA 10 sales a day and roughly one ungraded sale a day for this card, but only two ACE 10 sales, both in June 2026. Buyers can easily compare against frequent PSA 10 sales, so an ACE 10 copy may take longer to sell and its price depends on the subgrades.

About the evidence
- Sold listings are as reported by PriceCharting and were not individually checked; they are US eBay sales.
- Only two ACE 10 sales exist on PriceCharting, both from June 2026 and both with perfect subgrades, so the ACE 10 value is uncertain.
- The card image is reference artwork, not the customer's card; no grading was assessed.
Population. The identified card is graded by ACE; the PSA population report covers only PSA-graded copies, so no population for this ACE grade is available from the approved source.[2]
